Leukocyte Esterase Testing for Examination of Exudate Associated with Skeletal System Diseases. Comparison with Cytological and Microbiological Examinations

Abstract

Leukocyte esterase is the enzyme, which occurs in neutrophils. Their breakup is released into the exudate.

With colorimetric strip test we can diagnose the presence of leukocyte esterase in the exudate. This can determine, if the effusion is infectious or non-infectious etiology.

The aim of this study is to determine the sensitivity and specificity of leukocyte esterase strip test using test strip AUTION Sticks (Arkray).
