Abstrakt
The decline of students' interest in science can be overruled or at least slowed down by teaching practical courses and inquiry based education (IBE). This can help to improve the attitude towards science and also the amount of gained knowledge.
A pilot study showed that molecular biology and genetics (including biochemistry) have (nearly) no practical courses at grammar schools (GS) in the Czech Republic. We designed and tested in practice a course focused on protein electrophoresis using the basic IBSE rules.
We describe the course and examples of cooperation between GS and universities.
