The possibilities of teaching the blood groups and problems of working with blood at high schools

Abstract

The project summarizes possibilities of determination of the blood types. It also contains a proposal for teaching this topic at high schools without using the blood.

The aim of the project is to improve core competencies of high school students in the field of blood groups and methods of molecular biology (PCR, agarose electrophoresis). The part of this paper is optimization of a PCR method which could enable the determination of blood types using cells of the buccal mucosa.

Project is intended to supplement teaching during a seminar or project based biology course.
