Abstract
The review study starts with traditional and less traditional concepts of illness. It deals with terminological problems stemming from different perspectives: medicine, psychology, sociology.
The psychological perspective is emphasised here. It includes patient´s different ideas about illness, different beliefs, mental representations, subjective explanation and the like.
