Abstract
In the chapter is explained the term community (sometimes translated as the local surroundings) and its place in social system. The definition is going into the psychosocial parameters of community (social relationships are involved as well), its socioeconomic vein, social cohesion and social solidarity, stigmatized community.
The interest is paid to health state of community as well as quality of life of citizens and interventions improving the state of health: top-bottom and bottom-up interventions. Emphasis is given on the citizens being participant in changes.
