Abstract
Until today, classical methods of approach to the abdominal cavity have been connected with some, not particularly small, operational trauma and morbidity (laparotomy) or with some limitations of the approach and access (laparoscopy, endoscopy).A new modern method NOTES offers an intraluminal approach through the natural orrifice in order to minimize disadvantages of the previous methods. Although NOTES has been predominantly used in an experimental surgery, we may expect its expansion in clinical practice depending on the development of a new technology, and the specialised training of surgeons in the future.
