Abstract

Platelets fullfil the essential role in the mechanisms of blood coagulation. Furthemore, they have the major biological role in inflammation, vascular injury, angiogenesis, and atherothrombosis.

All this processes are involved in pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus, and they lead to the significant clinical manifestations. In the review, we will discuss the evidence of mechanisms of adhesion, aggregation of platelets, role of platelet activation and platelet-derived microparticles in pathogenesis of coagulation defects and atherogenesis in systemic lupus erythematosus.
