The examination of neck

Abstract

Palpation of the carotid arteries the weakening (atheromatous plague) and the intensive pulsation (hypertension, aortic insuphiciency). The filling of the jugular neck veins is increased (right heart faillure, cardiac tamponade) or decreased (dehydration).Cervical lymph nodes enlargement and the palpation finding in inflammatory and neoplastic discases.

Thyroid gland enlargement (goiter) is associated with an increased function (hyperthyroid goiter), decreased function (hypothyroid goiter) or with a normal function (euthyrod goiter)
