Publication at Central Library of Charles University |
2008

Abstract

Advanced airway management belongs to essential skills in emergency medicine. The authors present overview of methods that were used to secure airway by ambulance personnel of the Hradec Kralove Region Emergency Medical Services during the last 3 years.

Endotracheal intubation was the most frequent method (>95% cases). Nevertheless, all the emergency response vehicles have been equipped with modern supraglottic airway devices that have been used particularly in paramedic staffed ambulances and in all situations in which endotracheal intubation is not possible or is difficult.

The first ever pre-hospital use of the newest type of Laryngeal Mask Airway Supreme is also reported.
