Inhibition of palmityl carnitine oxidation in rat liver mitochondria by tert-butyl hydroperoxide

Abstract

We found that Complex I of the respiratory chain is more sensitive to oxidative damage in comparison with Complex II.We presented data obtained on isolated liver mitochondria showing that palmitoyl carnitine oxidation is strongly depressed in low concentration of tert-butyl hydroperoxide,while oxidation of flavoprotein-dependent substrate-succinate is not affected and neither is ATP synthesis inhibited by tert-butyl hydroperoxide.
