2006

Abstract

A strong craving to use the drug, inability to control the abuse, somatic with-drawal symptoms, incerased tolerance of the drug, complex damages of the patient's life, mania-like symptoms in acute intoxication and sometimes paranoid psychosis are basic characteristics of the metamphetamine (pervitine)dependence. A medium-term inpatient treatment may be provided in the Mental Hospital for Substance Abuse in Nechanice.

After the initial detoxification, the patients enter the therapeutic community treatment program. Disturbance of family function, social performance or parent-child relationship belong to the basic nursint diagnoses.

We describe proper nursing interventions related to metamphetamine dependence.
