Angiogenesis plays a key role in the development and progression of malignant tumors. Increased angiogenesis is the hallmark or virtually all types of cancer and has been identified as an independent adverse prognostic factor in various solid tumors and hematological malignancies.
This review summarizes current knowledge about angiogenic process, describes methods of angiogenesis assessment and appreciates antiangiogenic therapy which offers new and perspective options in the treatment of malignancies.
