Study of daunorubicin cardiotoxicity prevention with pyridoxal isonicotinoyl hydrazone in rabbits

Abstrakt

In this paper, cardioprotective effects of pyridoxal isonicotinoyl hydrazone (PIH) were studied on a rabbit model of daunorubicin-induced chronic cardiomyopathy. PIH administered before daunorubicin prevented premature death occurence and ameliorated systolic dysfunction as well as the morfological features of the anthracycline cardiotoxicity.

Therefore, PIH and other aroyl hydrazone iron chelators merits further study as cardioprotectants against anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity.
