Differences of glucose and fat metabolism in rats with chronic injury liver

Abstract

We compared substrate utilisation in liver fibrosis or cirrhosis using microdialysis to follow interstitial changes of urea, glucose, lactate and glycerol in peritoneal cavity, liver and thymus (Th). Male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups.

I: INT-intact rats, II: BDL-rats 14 days after bile duct ligation. III:CIRH-liver cirrhosis induced by chronic CCl4 administration.

Periodical degradation of pentobarbitale (anesthesia i.p.) by intact liver and fluctuating depth of anesthesia increases blood perfusion. Glucose decreased intraperitoneally in BDL.

Liver glucose was higher in INT v.s.BDL or CIRH. Th-lactate did not decrease in INT (signifies thymocyte proliferation).

Th-glucose was stable only in INT. Lower availability of glucose and lactate producton was in BDL and CIRH (thymocytes not proliferate during anesthesia).

Liver damage influenced interstitial metabolism of glugose, lactate and glycerol in distant organs - Th. This fluctuation could be cause of pathophysiological changes.
