Abstract

Aim: To assess character of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and used therapy during childhood in 18-years old patients treated in the centres for paediatric gastroenterology in the Czech Republic during 1990-2001. Method: Diagnostic criteria for Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC) and indeterminate colitis (IC) were defined.

Medical documentation was revised. If diagnostic criteria were fulfilled a standardized protocol was filled in and protocol was send to the co-ordinator of the study.

All protocols were twice independently checked, whether the data were sufficient and compatible with defined criteria and processed further. The study was retrospective in the years 1990-1999 and prospective in 2000-2001.
