Physiological regulation of yeast cell death in multicellular colonies is triggered by ammonia

Abstract

Ammonia signal emitted by colonies triggers metabolic changes that restrict cell death only to the centre of S. cerevisiae colony. The rest of the population can exploit released nutrients and survives.
