Thermal Injuries of Children in the Area of the Heel and Foot

Publication at Central Library of Charles University |
2000

Abstract

Thermal injuries hold an important place among child injuries. Less severe affections do not interfere with the tendons, articular capsule or bone, but despite this they can have a negative impact on the growth and development of the extremity due to traction of the hypertrophic scar.

As a result of fixation of a rigid joint children develop serious deformities of the heel and foot. In the author's opinion the crucial moment of therapy is prevention of the injury.

Equally important is prevention of the development of a hypertrophic scar by adequate therapeutic rehabilitation. In comprehensive therapy the author emphasizes the necessity of active collaboration of parents with health professionals.
