Abstract
The ideas are dealing with Modernism - in its development from early Romanticism until the 20th century - as a "paradox phenomenom" generated from an extreme tension between melancholy and euphoria, between the consciousness of a split subject and the search for identity, between fragment and the effort for gaining wholeness. Resulting from these paradox situations there are not only the crisis of Modernism, but also a specific energy, guaranteering Modernism´s aesthetic and artificial power.
