Abstrakt
The article deals with Spanish-American essay in the framework of the spiritual movement which can be encountered throughout Western literature at the end of the 19th century. The antinomies of modernism are of a more general interest (the universal/ the local, “openness”/ “inward” focus, irony/ analogy, criticism/ hope).
Because of its confidence in the future of the “young people” it is related to utopia.
