Abstract

This paper contains partial results of a research of secondary school students’ attitudes towards chemistry. It is, therefore, completion of so far conducted researches in the Czech Republic which were focused on elementary or grammar school students’ attitudes.

The questionnaire used in this research is a modification of questionnaires commonly used for measuring learners’ attitudes towards scientific school subjects, however, it respects also environment of vocational schools. The questionnaires were submitted to students (N = 595) at the beginning of a school year, therefore reflect their attitudes gained at elementary schools.

Special attention is paid to chemistry education at vocational schools. Nevertheless, the general recommendations leading to optimisation of educational process based on findings of the research may be applied also at elementary schools and grammar schools.
