Trochanteric fractures - anatomy and classification

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine, Third Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

Classification of trochanteric fractures remains an unresolved issue. While the basic division into pertrochanteric and intertrochanteric fractures is valid, it is necessary to re-assess the existence of individual subtypes included in AO classification.

The same applies to the concept of instability of trochanteric fractures. In this respect it is necessary to focus more on the lateral trochanteric wall and primarily on the effect of medial displacement of the femoral shaft in fractures treated by DHS.
