Abstract

This article aims to produce a more detailed elaboration on the issue of lexical non-equivalence in the context of foreign language teaching and acquisition. It comprises an analysis of the manners of realia description and translation in several textbooks of Bulgarian as a foreign language, based on different linguodidactic methodologies.

The acquisition of non-equivalent items relating to as large thematic scope as possible and carrying information on the nation specific conditions in which the language functions is viewed as one of the determining factors in obtaining in-depth communicative competence by foreign language learners.
