The aim of the study was to assess whether Nordic walking could be used for the improvement of aerobic physical fitness in the group of renal patients. Five patients (4 of them underwent kidney transplantation and one patient is dialysed) participated and terminated the study.
Aerobic physical fitness was determined by cardiorespiratory parameters such as oxygen consumption and heart rate during the modified Balke treadmill test. The group of patient took part in 20 day of 60 minutes Nordic walking session.
We focused on the improvement tendencies in cardiorespiratory parameters, oxygen consumption, and heart rate and attained maximal values of the treadmill inclination. The values of these parameters were improved in four of five renal patients.
We conclude that the intensity of Nordic walking performed in accordance with adequate individual heart rate will possibly lead to the increase in the overall aerobic physical fitness.
