Slavic studies were inspired in this sense by the idea of specific role of the Slavic nations in European history.

Three problems of Slavic studies arised in the 20th century: doubts of the common character of Slavic cultures, clash between national convictions and the admiration for achievements of modern technology, crisis of modern Euroean culture.
