The monograph deals with the current position of Roma people in majority societies in the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic and the United Kingdom. It demonstrates what role the stereotype of a Roma person plays in the negotiation of the positions of both Roma society and majority society.
It argues that the Roma stereotype is a personification of the concept of a failing individual who is not acceptable for society. That is the reason why the ethno-emancipation process of Roma people is so problematic.
The individual chapters of the monograph focus on the attitudes towards the Roma person stereotype from the point of view of both Roma people and the majority; they deal with the position of Roma people in the local societies, they pay attention to the situation in the education system, they thematise the question of Roma music, and reflect the scientific discourse on an issue of Roma people.
