Abstrakt
The history of art, as a subject of study, was established at university level in 2nd and 3rd quarter of 19th century. In Prague it was constituted for the first time in 1852.
In Prague a series of German art-historians started to work or worked until 1945. The development of this branch was influenced by historic events, national disputes and ideologic conflicts in the time of Nazi regime.
In spite of that there existed personalities in the field of history of art who survived with no blot on their escutcheons or they did great achievements for forming spiritual atmosphere in a positive way.
