Treatment of benign thyroid nodules (Is the levothyroxine suppression an effective treatment of nodular goiter?

Abstract

Diagnosis of thyroid nodules is based on personal history, palpation of the thyroid gland, laboratory tests to assess thyroid function and the presence of an autoimmune process, ultrasound and cytological examination using a fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). Result suggests to keep the patients of younger age without suppressive therapy for a minimal period of 1 year after the biological nature verification of the thyroid gland nodular changes using FNAB.
