Family Risk of Dyslexia

Publication at Faculty of Education |

Abstract

Specific learning disabilities (SLD) are still one of the main current topics not only in practice but also in research. There is an obvious trend in shifting attention from the reeducation of SLD to prevention.

There lies an important moment in the identification of a potentially endangered child in preschool age, which enables subsequent implementation of early interventions. We ask questions how it is possible to find these children, how reliable is this searching and what criteria are suitable.

The paper deals with the phenomenon of risk, based on family burden. Large part is dedicated to the criteria for classifying children- the criteria by which it is possible to suspect a possible SLD in the future.

As has been shown in research projects ELDEL and GA UK, parents may not always correctly identify this risk. In addition there is also a great variability in symptoms.

Characteristics of families at risk of dyslexia and their differences from non-risk group will be described.
