Theoretical and methodological prospects of contemporary linguistics

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2013

Abstract

The book contributes to the discussion of the development of contemporary linguistic theories and linguistic research methodology. The first part of the book comprises five Czech translations of important contemporary studies.

These works (by Nicholas Evans, Stephen Levinson, Raymond W. Gibbs and Luc Steels among others) highlight certain aspects of linguistic research which are under focus in linguistics as such: position of empirical research in linguistics, relation between linguistics and neuroscience, evolution of language, linguistic universals and language diversity or computational modelling of language processes.

These translations are then supplemented by a opinion poll where some of the lecturers from the Summer School of Linguistics in Dačice present their views of linguistic research and methodology. The last part of the book presents the Summer School of Linguistics in Dačice.
