The Language of the Crimean Czechs: language situation changing through 150 years

Abstract

The article describes the language situation of the Crimean Czechs from the time when the Czech colonies appeared in the Crimea until now. The language situation has experienced significant shifts over the past 150 years.

Nowadays only the oldest generations appear to be native speakers, who can speak and write Czech fluently.
