The Language Situation in the Originally Czech Communities in Crimea

Abstract

This study examines Czech colonies in the Crimea (Southern Ukraine). Speech and language are in the spotlight as they reflect the history of the colonies.

The article aims to analyse the questions of intercultural interaction as well as the other topics, such as the influence of other nations on Czech colonists. The findings provide guidance on Czech Diaspora (community) on the Crimean peninsula and shows unavoidable process of assimilation, so typical for national minorities living in ethnically foreign land.
