This exegetical study represents an introduction to the structure of the Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament and illustrates the ethical purpose by a synchronous analysis of the Hebrew text in the sixth speech of the father or mother to their son. This address is specific in that it takes into consideration both models of the expected ethical behaviour of the son (ethical attitudes as a result of the Lord‘s action and, at the same time, ethical behaviour as a result of self-discipline - an expression of the will to work on oneself ), and connects them with the spiritual overtone and outcome (with a need to be exposed to the Lord‘s actions and will).
The explication includes a reflection on the echo of the speech in the New Testament.
