Improving school leadership - what can be read from the OECD study

Publication at Faculty of Education |

Abstract

Twenty-two educational systems (but not the Czech Republic) provided in 2007 their background reports for a comparative analysis of OECD. The final report of this project (Pont, Nusche & Moorman, 2008) formulates policy recommendations for improving school leadership.

Four policy "levers" have been identified: (1) (Re)Defining school leadership responsibilities, (2) Distributing school leadership, (3) Developing skills for effective school leadership, and (4) Making school leadership an attractive profession. The aim of this paper is to report on the recommendations mentioned above, which - in the words of the authors - can altogether contribute to improve school results just by school leadership.
