Abstract
Antonín Švehla occupied the position of the Chairman of the Agrarian Party for many years. He was a key figure of 28th October 1918, Minister of Interior and three-time Prime Minister of the newly formed Republic.
He was the person who was able to transform the success of Masaryk’s and Beneš’s foreign policy into practical domestic policy, who, in the turbulent times of post-war uncertainties managed, when creating a new democratic state, with unflagging zeal, knowledge, pragmatism and business-like approach to find practical outcomes, compromises and who was also able to push them through
