The article brings the overview of care of patients with sever mental illness in the Czech Republic. Options of hospital-based and community-based everyday care are summarized.
Results, which mirror quality of care, gathered using internationally validated questionnaire QuIRC (Quality Indicator for Rehabilitative Care) are presented. Status of care of long-term mentally ill is undoubtedly influenced by a development of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic and also by social, political and cultural context and long-standing clinical psychiatric practice.
Possibilities of psychiatric care development regarding previous experiences from deinstitutionalization process abroad are discussed.
