The Czech historians of the 19th century knew all the works by Knothe, but they were especially referring to Geschichte des Oberlausitzer Adels und seiner Güter (Leipzig 1879). The Czech scholars were particularly interested in the history of the Upper Lusatia because this land had belonged to the Czech Crown until 1635.

Nowadays, a group of young historians deals with this topic at the Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University in Prague.
