Abstract
In 1880s, Corrado Segre and Eduard Weyr introduced characteristics which are defined for square matrices. One hundred years later, Hans Schneider and Daniel Hershkowitz studied characteristics of graphs.
Surprisingly, there are close relationships between all the characteristics.
