As discussions about the possible decriminalization of assisted suicide, or the termination of life on request are regarded, it is often pointed out Czech society supports the idea of "legalizing euthanasia". However, the case of an public opinion poll conducted in Switzerland in May 2010 on a representative sample of 1500 respondents quite clearly demonstrates that even in countries with a long tradition of direct democracy and liberal legislation concerning assisted suicide the results of the poll cannot be accepted uncritically.
