Biblical motifs and semantic structure of Lu Xun's short story "Medicine"

Abstract

The article discusses the short story “Medicine” (Yao) by the founder of modern Chinese literature Lu Xun (1881-1936) as an example of reception and assimilation of Biblical motifs. The analysis focuses on selected biblical motifs and their sources as well as on the distinct roles individual motifs play in the semantic structure of the short story under scrutiny.
