Abstract
The article explains within historical, religious and literary context one episode from the cycle of narratives about Elisha, man of God, in the 2nd Book of Kings, belonging to the Old Testament. The story depicts how Elisha foretells to his hostess birth of a son; when afterwards her son dies, Elisha on her intervention resuscitates him.
The article follows the story in its dramatic plot from which the always actual theme of life as a great God’s gift stands out. From human side this gift is accepted with gratitude but also fought for with persistence.
