Lower limb ischemia - diagnosis in primary treatment?

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2013

Abstract

Peripheral arterial disease is mostly caused by the atherosclerotic proces and its complications. It is associated with significantly elevated cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

Even though contemporary medicine is making large strides forward and is able to do things that would have been considered miraculous in the past, cardiovascular diseases still represent the most common cause of death in Czech Republic. Chronic lower limb ischemia is, in comparison to the ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular accidents, relatively underestimated and less frequently treated.

In identifying risk patients and estimating their risk levels in primary care, a general practitioner undoubtedly plays a significant role.
