Erazim Kohák: Courage to non-exceptionality

Publication |
2013

Abstract

Text describes the philosophical thinking of Erazim Kohák in the context of his life, and reflects his responsibility, reliability in opinion, and systemic thinking in the historical context. Erazim Kohák has retained connection with the Czech environment even if he spent majority of his life in emigration, and this connection was not only personal, but also philosophical; and he retained the Czech language with which he had not been in contact for a period of fifty years.

He knew he would one day return and he did so gradually, after the velvet revolution in 1989. The article reflects Kohák’s thoughts on the human life and history, on the relationship of people and nature, from which he derives his unique ecological ethics.

Philosophy of Erazim Kohák is authentic, as is proven by his life experience, as shown by numerous examples in the text.
