Abstract

Bone tissue, which used to be thought of simply as a mechanical support system and repository of minerals, has very high metabolic activity, regulated to a large part hormonally. Recent findings show however, that even a bone tissue itself can be a source of hormone.

Typical example is undecarboxylated osteocalcin, which increases insulin production and stimulates energy metabolism
