Abstract

Bone metabolic disease is very common in HIV-positive persons. At this time there are 1.469 positive persons in Czech Republic and the number is continuously increasing.

The mean age of positive person increases as well. The risk factors of osteopenia and osteoporosis are represented by viral load itself, low BMI, smoking, alcohol abuse, vitamin D deficiency, haypogonadism, etc.

Screening and adequate therapy is recommended in persons with more than one risk factor. Apart from calcium and vitamin D supplementation the bisphosphonates are currently administered.
