National screening program of sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC): development, presence, perspective

Abstract

Screening of sporadic CRC was launched in the Czech Republic in 2000. The examination includes a test for occult blood in the stool (FOBT), newly clients can decide directly for primary screening colonoscopy.

We are continuously monitoring increases numbers of examinations, which is undoubtedly related to the increase in the number of executed FOBT, and with the growing interest in the prevention of CRC in general. The near future of the National screening program CRC can be summarized as follows: 1. attenuation of guaiac occult blood test and transition to a more modern immunochemical tests (during 2013) 2. introduction the Institute of addressee inviting, the national project connected with a media campaign (starting in mid-2013) 3. formation the new screening expertise for performance in the colorectal cancer screening 4. maintain the quality of the preventive colonoscopy and reaccreditation of Centers for a screening colonoscopy.
