Abstract

Partha Chatterjee analyses in his text "the rule of colonial difference", which is the imperative of representing the “other” as inferior and radically different, and hence incorrigibly inferior. He describes how the rule was applied in colonial India and explains why the rule of colonial difference is an integral part of the modern regime of power and not a culturally and historically specific exception.
