Abstract
Article try to explain why the translation of a notoriously known episode with Polyphemus, Odysseus, and Cyclops (Hom. Od.
IX, esp. verse 410) in Czech is so difficult, while English translation is without problem. Czech as the language with strict negative concord uses the negator beside the n-word, in difference of Ancient Greek (language with non-strict negative concord) and English (without negative concord), where an n-word is sufficient to express a negative clause.
