The article aims at problematic of the popular „spiritual“ literature. The first part shortly describes the historical background and the situation of the Czech culture, especially the influence of religious life and the growing spiritism in the South Bohemia at the second half of the nineteenth century and its manifestation in the literature.
The main part of the text traces a distinction between popular version of conversion based on simplified notion of analogy (used for example by Paulo Coelho) and the critical approach of the modern novel based on the scepticism and irony.
