Inflammatory cardiomyopathy: Still many questions await answers

Abstract

Heart failure represents a major public health problem as it belongs to the most significant causes of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a common cause of heart failure.

DCM is defined by the presence of left ventricular (LV) dilatation and LV systolic dysfunction in the absence of abnormal loading conditions (hypertension, valve disease) or coronary artery disease sufficient to cause global systolic impairement.
