Dental Check-Ups in Czech Preschool and School Children in 2001-2010 and their Trends (Original Article - statistic study)
Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the volume of preventive dental examinations for children aged 0-14 years in 2010 and to establish their trend data from the last decade starting in 2001. The data files of NGA provided dental care were calculated by following indicators : % of children viewed by a dentist at least once a year, of which % of children viewed twice a year, % of children whom in a given year have not completed dental examination, % of children who were at the same time examinated and conducted preservative treatment ( fillings ) and % of children who were simultaneously performed with surgical treatment ( extraction).
In 2010 graduated from dental examinations at least once in 2-3 years 66.7 % of children , of whom 28.6 % were inspected twice. At the age of 3-6 years, these figures were 66.4 % / 31.8 % , at 6- 10-year 84.2 % / 58.8 % and at age 14 and 10 - 71.1% / 55.8 %.
During the years 2001-2010 in 2 - 3-year children the proportion of children viewed at least once significantly increased and the inspected the proportion of children viewed twice a year significantly increased. For older preschool children over the past decade indicators of preventive examinations did not change significantly.
Frequencies of children of school age , scanned at least once a year did not change significantly, about 85 % of the children underwent preventive examination at least once a year. In the age groups 6- 10-year and 10 to 14 years, however, the proportion of children examined twice a year significantly increased.
Indicators of preventive examinations and their development trend in recent years shows the weaknesses of the current system of child dental care, which is not an effective tool to increase access to preventive examinations in preschool and school children.
